The electronics recycling industry continues to grow at a steady clip, up from $1.5 billion in revenues in 2002 to $5 billion in 2010. Meanwhile, employment has jumped to 30,000 workers from 7,000 over that same period. With ever-decreasing product life cycles and increasing pervasiveness of electronics in products, the recycling landscape continues to evolve.
In terms of ensuring sustainability in this shifting marketplace, recycling is a pivotal part of the solution. Yet the study notes that issues around fragmentation of industry providers and lack of harmonization around industry oversight must be overcome. Read more about the IDC PC recycling study.
