Is it time to review your business insurance? I was given pause this week to think about the recycling businesses I have known over the years that have found themselves with inadequate coverage in the face of the unexpected, particularly fire. It is a good practice to review your policy on an annual basis in light of changes to your business.
Embarrassingly, this reminder is sparked not from insight, but by a rock that blew out my driver's side mirror this week on the washboard gravel road from Cachi, in northwestern Argentina. When I made it to the wine town of Cafayate I pulled out my rental car insurance policy, and realized that it was woefully inadequate (sorry Zeke).
It has been a curious week on the road, starting with snow in Salta (the first apparently in three years), sand storms and sagebrush on the Cachi road, and an Internet outage in the small towns that has been ongoing for three weeks. I was worried about posting a blog or two, but the small businesses along the route have been severely hamstrung. It all comes back to business continuity planning. Don't get caught looking in what's left of your rear view mirror.
