In the past it was not unusual to see piles of old tires or old automotive debris, but have you looked lately? Auto repair shops are increasingly playing a key role in recycling and protecting the environment, according to a study by the Automotive Aftermarket Industry Association (AAIA).

Tires, batteries, automotive parts, scrap metal, air conditioning refrigerants, pallets, cardboard and more are captured through the recycling efforts of automotive aftermarket service providers.

Case in point, about 88% of companies in this sector recycle tires, resulting in 300 million tires recycled annually in the U.S. This contributes to an overall 89% recycling rate for old tires.
