When it comes to keeping old carpet out of landfills, being proactive is the message, according Simon Macaulay, recently-elected Chair of the Flooring Sustainability Partnership (FSP).

Some 66 000 tonnes of carpet was prevented from entering landfills in 2011 alone, resulting in a diversion rate of 16.5%. As a 'great believer in producer responsibility', Mr Macaulay emphasises that the industry has 'a lot to gain' by doing the right thing and actively participating in re-directing the amount of waste now destined for landfill.

Don”t forget if you eliminate waste you stop all trade. Everything we buy and take home eventually goes in the garbage, even the Mona Lisa will go in the garbage. All these things comes from the ground, stays in our home for a short while before going back to the ground so anything that stops this is really negative-think man! You are playing with the livelihood of the whole planet.
